Fake double glazing salesmen dupe elderly in Warwickshire

Fake double glazing salesmen have been duping the elderly in Warwickshire Elderly homeowners in Warwickshire have fallen prey to con-men posing as double glazing salesmen and police officers.

Homeowners may want to seek double glazing quotes from reputable websites rather than door-to-door salesmen as bogus callers have recently struck the homes of elderly people in Warwickshire.

The elderly victims were duped by the callers, who posed as police officers and double glazing salesmen, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

In one attack, a pensioner answered the door to a man who claimed to work for a double glazing firm called Watershield.

The man persuaded the householder to hand over a £300 cash deposit for installing new windows.

He then said he was going to look at one of the windows from outside but never returned.

Later, the pensioner discovered that a further £800 had been taken from his wallet, according to the newspaper.

In another attack nearby, a man posing as a police officer managed to gain entry to an elderly man's home after saying he was there to check windows for signs of an attempted break-in.

Last month, double glazing windows helped a retirement home to win a Secured by Design Award, which supports the principle of reducing crime through increasing security features in the design of buildings.
